National Fireplace Institute

The National Fireplace Institute recommends that you check the credentials of the chimney/hearth professionals you hire. Established in 2001, the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) offers certifications for professionals in the hearth industry based on national standards for certification agencies. Certifications are available by fuel type: gas, woodburning, and pellet. Professionals holding all three certifications are designated as Master Hearth Professionals. As recommended in the installation manuals of the vast majority of hearth product manufacturers, anyone seeking to upgrade an existing appliance or install a new system should utilize an NFI Certified Professional for the planning and installation.
